What We Offer
We help young clients express emotions, build resilience, and strengthen family bonds. Using play therapy, sandtray therapy, expressive arts, and trauma-informed approaches, we address concerns such as:
- Anxiety and worry
- Depression or mood struggles
- Anger and frustration outbursts
- ADHD and difficulty focusing
- Trauma, grief, or loss
- Family transitions (divorce, moves, blended families)
Tamra creates safe spaces where children feel seen and teens feel understood. Play therapy draws on the Therapeutic Powers of Play to foster communication, emotional regulation, social skills, and confidence.
Parent consultations and coaching are a required part of the care plan when a child is in therapy at Playful Roots so progress continues at home.
Parent consultations and coaching are built into child and teen treatment at Playful Roots. Why? Children make the most progress when caregivers are actively involved.
Parent sessions focus on:
- Strengthening communication and connection in your family
- Learning positive parenting strategies to support emotional growth
- Ensuring consistency between home and therapy
- Helping parents feel confident and equipped
Adults face their own challenges—stress, trauma, relationship struggles, grief, or feeling “stuck.” We provide a non-judgmental space to process experiences and develop effective coping strategies.
Common concerns we support:
- Anxiety and depression
- Stress and burnout
- Relationship and family struggles
- Trauma and grief
- Anger or difficulty with life transitions
Approaches include: CBT, DBT, ACT, EMDR, sandtray therapy, expressive arts, and holistic wellness practices. For many adults, rediscovering play through sandtray or creative tools opens new pathways for healing. Tamra also brings her health & wellness background to help balance mental health with physical strength, confidence, and self-care.
For clients who desire it, counseling can integrate Christian faith perspectives with evidenced-based methods. Tamra respects each client’s values, blending spiritual insight with psychological care in a way that feels safe and collaborative.
If you don’t want faith integrated, care remains fully evidenced-based.
